A Scholar among Scholars

We are proud to announce that Nagesh N. Murthy, Roger Engemann Professor of Operations and Business Analytics at the Lundquist College of Business, has been named a fellow of the Decision Sciences Institute (DSI), one of the highest honors in the field.

The fellow designation recognizes DSI members who are eminent scholars in decision sciences and who are actively engaged with the institute. Earning this honor places Murthy among a select and distinguished group of academics whose research, teaching, and service have significantly advanced the study and practice of decision sciences, business analytics, and operations management globally.

Since joining Lundquist in 2002, Murthy has built a stellar record of scholarship, industry partnerships, and service. His research spans the areas of production and operations, supply chain management, sustainable operations, information systems, and more, and has appeared in such top journals as Management Science, Manufacturing & Service Operations Management, Production and Operations Management, Journal of Operations Management, and Decision Sciences.

He has also been a champion of university-industry collaborations, leading, among other projects, to a benchmarking study that laid the foundation for the formation of the Oregon Manufacturing Innovation Center Research and Development, which to date has received $75 million in funding from state, federal, and industry sources.

"I owe huge thanks to the wealth of vision, wisdom, and unconditional support from all my colleagues and the deans and department heads who encourage faculty engagement with industry and government for funded research. These engagements also would not have been possible without inspirational and transformative gifts from JELD-WEN; Roger and Michele Engemann; Thomas C. Stewart, Greg and Michelle Quesnel; Joe Hawes, Hawes Group, and family; Jim Bramsen; and others," said Murthy.

In addition, Murthy has contributed to the decision sciences academic community at large, serving in leadership roles, including as research chair and conference chair for several conferences, further underscoring his service to the field. He was also recently named the incoming editor of Decision Sciences, the flagship journal of DSI.

This milestone is made even more significant by the fact that Murthy joins another member of the Lundquist faculty as a DSI fellow: James Reinmuth, a professor emeritus and former dean of the college. With two fellows on the DSI roster, the Lundquist College now stands out among business schools for the depth and caliber of its decision sciences expertise.

"Nagesh's elevation to DSI Fellow reflects the high-quality research, real-world impact, and commitment to excellence that the Lundquist College brings to operations and business analytics education," said Edward Maletis Dean Bruce Blonigen. "It signals that our faculty are playing a leading role on the global stage, shaping the future of how organizations make decisions, manage supply chains, incorporate AI and data science, and innovate sustainably. This is a richly deserved honor recognizing Nagesh's incredible accomplishments and impact on business education and economic vitality in the U.S., as well as internationally."
